Thoughts, feelings and intense feeling…

Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter. – Oscar Wilde

As a visiting faculty, I generally address young and dynamic students of professions like C.A. & C.S. Their training sessions is called GMCS (General Management & Communication Skills) & my role is to give a `motivation talk’ so as to develop some progressive vision about their profession among them.

However, the question here is: Can others influence our actions through their motivation talks?

The answer is `no’. No one can make us to act in a particular way.

What Motivation can provide is food for thought only & there is a gap between thought and action.

The thought should become a feeling. The feeling should become an intense feeling and the feeling becomes intense, we act. Someone can give us a thought or an idea. But our feelings are generated by us. It is up to us to make the feelings intense or weak.

For example, I am `thinking’ of getting up at 5 am. This thought should trigger a feeling of excitement or happiness inside me. If this is to take place, I am getting up at 5 am and enjoying all the feelings associated with it else It’s just a thought.

Not every feeling will push you into action, especially when I am influenced by old habits. The feeling should be intense and strong enough. The more and more I visualize the benefits of getting up at 5 am, my desire to get up early intensifies. When the intensity at the highest, I cannot be prevented from getting up early.

So, as I said, mere motivation talks by others will not change my actions. My mind has to accept the goal, the business plan and the target. Only then I will initiate specific actions and enjoy doing the same.

The best motivator is our mind. The worst de-motivator is also our mind.

Unless and until our mind supports our ambition, we will not do what is required.

We have to keep our mind on our side. Our mind should follow our intellect. The mind has no intelligence. It is something like using powerful software by giving the right commands.

We have to be emotionally intelligent and control the five senses. If we don’t exercise this option, the mind will escape in all directions.

I have an interesting story to explain emotional intelligence

A group of monkeys decide to go on a fast one day.
“Before we begin, I think we should keep the food with which we’ll break the fast ready,” counseled the old monkey chief.
The monkeys agreed, procured and held delicious bananas in their hands.

“I think each of us should keep our share of bananas with us before we begin our fast, so that we don’t spend time distributing them after we break our fast. You can imagine how hungry we all will be by then!” said the chief’s wife.
The monkeys liked the idea and they collected their share of the bananas.
“Why don’t we peel one banana and keep it ready to eat?” said one of the youngsters.
“Yes, let’s do that,” shouted a fat monkey in agreement. Just looking at the bananas was making him hungry.
“All right,” said the monkey chief. “We shall peel the bananas but under no condition should we eat them.”
So the monkeys peeled their bananas and carefully kept them ready for eating in the evening.
“Can I keep the banana in my mouth? I promise not to eat it till evening. Please!” a little monkey asked his father.
“Why don’t we all put a banana in our mouth? That way we can chew it immediately when we break the fast,” said his father, who had agreed to go on the fast only because his wife had not given him a choice.

“As long as we don’t eat it, it should be fine,” he added.
So, the monkeys put the bananas in their mouths. One by one they eyed each other uncomfortably as they began their fast — and as you can imagine, within no time at all, the bananas disappeared down their gullets.

And that was the end of their fast!

Hence

Its only your mind Which motivates you…….

Its only the power of your own mind;

Discipline of your own emotions

which will direct you towards achievement of your goal
